Put the carbs in boiling hot water and usually the slides will come out

Don`t think it`s a good idea to soak the carbs in vinegar as it`s a mild acid.

Good tip about using hot water for the carbs. The slides all come out and the float that wouldn’t move now does. Needles look ok but didn’t remove them from slides yet. Didn’t have time for any more stripping so jets etc for next time…

So carburetors nearly stripped down. Needles out and floats removed after a little battle with the pins. Only thing now on the carbs is 2 of the starter plungers wont move. Ive tried acetone neat plus some heat but its tricky getting any force on them. Any suggestions?
Engine has gone to Gary for a full rebuild. Looking forward to seeing that in a few months.
Getting frame and ancillaries ready to take for blasting and powder coating. But I’m stuck on 2 bits. Swing arm bushes aren’t moving. Sleeves all came out ok and I’ve tried heat and soaking in release agent. Also still can’t move the center stand bush - I may resort to getting a drill that size and just drill it out.
Having trouble splitting the rear wheel cases to get to the Cush drive - any suggestions for that ? The rear wheel brake drum has been mauled at some point and some of the protection ridge has been broken off - will that be ok or do i need a replacement drum?
Generator stator needs to go off for rewinding soon.
Seat base is almost non existent so will need a new base, foam and cover. What are the fiberglass ones like?

Craig T, I’d better get a move on then.
Swingarm bushes now out but I still have the center stand bush to hacksaw out yet… Hope i can get a new bush for it… Once that’s done i can take the frame and bits for powder coating.

Send generator stator off for rewinding.
Then i can get onto the wheels and handlebar controls…….
I think the chrome is too bad on rims so ill get new stainless ones with new spokes. Just need to get the Cush drive cover off now….

Send you carbs to Tangoman..he wil sort out the chokes and bring them back to " like new" condition for extremely reasonable money...it really is not worth faffing around with them yourself......check out the members services area on here.
You will then also know that the needles, jets, slides etc. are all correct and will need minimal setting up after the rebuild.

Update on rebuild:

Carburettors on their way to Mark Tangoman for refurb and vapour clean. Couldn’t get started plungers out so Mark says he can do it .
Frame and bits to Maldon shot blasting for clean and powder coat.
Questions:
1/ if the 2 silencers on the bike one says KH1 250 S1. Does this mean 250 silencers would fit ok? Just asking, although I will probably go Higgspeed.
2/ Need new rims - alloy or stainless , or even chrome again ? Are they WM1 and WM2 ? Could I go to WM3 on rear ?
3/ Where the hell can I get a bush for the centre stand? I had to hacksaw the old one out to get it off the bike and from the stand itself.
4/ Where can I get Front fork bushes from? Can’t see them advertised anywhere.
5/ What are the best rear shock absorbers? Was thinking of the Hagon ones . Are they better than the no name ones on sale with the Kawasaki triple parts suppliers?

Hi Phil - In relation to the question about exhausts, I had S2A exhausts fitted to my old S1A so guess it would work the other way round.
The silencers on my current S2A do not have any stamping that I can see at all (whereas my KH250 did - just by the footrests).
I measured some old down pipes from my old KH250 and compared them with my current S2A last night and they appear to be the same.
