Hi guys, been awhile since I’ve been on.
Bike is all finished now , even the damper screw.
Chrome looks fantastic. They ground all the rust pits out and all the bits look like new.
Anyway, funny thing is I think it was the build for me as I was at a difficult point in my cancer journey . I’m still alive and kicking but I’m much weaker and I don’t think I’ll ever take the bike out in anger. I just don’t feel confident anymore. So I’m putting the bike up for sale soon. Will be sad but I think I needed the rebuild to occupy my mind.
It’s cost me about £7500 in total and it isn’t original in a couple of things - wider stainless rims, bigger tyres, lower bars etc etc. but I have all the old bits still .
Do you guys think £7500 is too much ??? I will advertise on here first , hoping it will go to someone who will use it lots.

I don't think your value expectation is unreasonable....however advertising the bike in a wider market place than here will increase your chances of selling

You have done a fantastic job of this and I am glad you are still 'alive and kicking' :D
Prices appear to have stagnated a bit lately. Maybe more towards the £6.5K mark?
As said previously, a wider audience may prove more fruitful.
I hope you continue well on your road to recovery :D

As I have said many times the classic bikes are worth what someone will pay..........
Its sooo hard to decide the value of one.

Unfortunately no recovery for me, I’m incurable now so it’s just management now. Puts everything into perspective 🙂
I’m having to wait for my driveway to be finished as I can’t get the bike out of the garage at the moment. And I want to give it a run round to check the gears and brakes etc.

Hello, so it’s me again…
Just tried starting the bike as driveway now finished. It’s nearly starting so checked spark and nothing on LHS . Both the centre and RHS all ok.
So gotta take the tank off now to check connections and possibly swap coils over to see it it’s that. They are the original coils so maybe it could do with new ones.
Any suggestions as to the best place to get one , or three?
I am presuming as 2 are working that it’s not an issue with the Accent ignition or my wiring thereof…

Just remembered that when I was running the bike up I noticed the LH cylinder didn’t get anywhere near as warm as the centre and RH. So suspect I’ve always had this issue.

Checking voltages might be a better prelude to swapping things around blindly Phil. Possibly save a lot of unnecessary work.

First thing I’ll do is try the HT lead on another coil. Then the connections from the Ignition system to the coils.
Shouldn’t take too long it’s just fitting it in with my busy retired life 🤦‍♀️

Hi Guys. Finally got out in the garage. Checked the coils all ok. Checked the connections all the way from the Accent and all good. But still no spark on LH cylinder.
What we did find was that with the ignition on at whatever position the engine was at if you touched the LH coil wire to the coil it has a small spark. Doesn’t happen in centre or right side.
It’s not enough to blow a fuse but I’m sure it shouldn’t be like that. Is it possible there’s something wrong with the accent? As I said centre and RH side work fine. We even retimed it.
I’ll attach a picture showing how we connected from the ignition direct to the coil connection.

I have a thread open for the ignition issue in the Technical section and I’ve just updated it. Uwe from Accent replied to an email from my son and he’s suspecting a blown transistor. So he gave us a part number and we’ve ordered one to replace the blown one. Fingers crossed that fixes it and we’ll be running on all 3 again soon.

Hi guys. Well I’ve written this thread up as a short story now and Malc is going to print it in the magazine. Also my short Bio will be in there too.
Bike not up and running yet as I’m still not fit enough to get the tank off etc. But keeping fingers crossed I’ll get there.

I wish I'd read this a few weeks ago. It sounds very much like the trouble I was having with an H1b. The Accent ignition was at fault there too. I haven't been able to contact Accent,apparently they are on holiday for the past month or so. Not back until 12th August.

Phils son Ed contacted me today with some sad sad news

Hi Malcolm,

This is Ed, Phil Roof's son. His article for restoring his S2A was published in September's issue of the Kawasaki triples.

Sadly, he passed away peacefully on Monday after his long fight with cancer. This was also the same day the September issue was delivered to my parent's house.

We would really like to gift copies of the issue to close friends and family as mementos. Do you have 5 spare copies of the September issue available or are you able to print more? We can cover the costs for printing/delivery.

Thank you to everyone on the forum supporting my dad through the rebuild of his S2A. Although he never got to ride it, it helped keep his mind busy during his fight.

I will look into posting something on the forum when I can as I recall he has a thread on his rebuild.

So so sad that Phil never got to see it as I know he was looking forward to seeing it all in print.
