I put a simple on/off non vacuum tap on mine while the original went to Tango for a refurb, but the cheap tap works so well without leaks,I still haven't got around to putting the original back on.

I'm a great believer in not fixing what isn't broken. :D
I've never had an issue with a vacuum tap that I can't sort, I've not investigated further other than checking the usual places for leaks on the tank.
We've buggered off to York for the day, I might get back to it sometime next week, this evening I need to just be bolting bits on my H2 to make it look more like a bike, surly that should be quite straightforward :)

So today was a bad day/ good day.
I ordered some parts from Z power last Friday, I got a Royal Mail notification around 2 o'clock saying my parcel from Z power had been delivered, funny I thought, not heard my doorbell cam go off. A quick check on the doorbell app and nope, no parcel, I check my Royal Mail app ( there's an app for everything nowadays ) it says it's been delivered, however the picture of the delivery is blank.
I waited until I got home, no parcel in our safe place, so I interact with the bot, it says it could have been a miss scan and wait until tomorrow, even though my notification told me it would be delivered between 9.30-11.30. this morning. Ho hum.
After tea I ventured into the garage and was greeted by the strong smell of petrol from my 69 H1. I thought right I'm going to get to the bottom of this, so I knew the float bowls were empty, so onto prime and held my breath, after 5 minutes I had no leaks, hurray, a quick prod of the kickstart and it bursts into life, I switch the bike off and lock the garage and head off to get my bike gear on, I set out and the bike is running like crap, I head to the petrol station to fill up, the bike doesn't feel right, on arrival the bike cuts out, it starts again 1st kick, then I remembered I'd not set the idle.
I fill up and head back home, wheel the bike into the back garden and kneeld on the floor, then I spotted it, petrol staining on the fuel tap float bowl, so out with a 10mm on the float bowl and I got a good 1/4 of a turn on it, hopefully that's the end of the petrol smell.
I then turn my attention to the bike running like crap, I remembered the last thing I did was adjust the free play at the handlebar end, with the engine off I worked the throttle and noticed the lack of free play, so out with the 10 mm and adjust the free play. I take the bike out and it's running great, I stop on a quiet road to set the carbs up, as I'm doing so I biker stops to see if I need any help, there's still good bikers out there :)
With the idle set I set back off home ready for my ride to work tomorrow.
Now I just need to stop the oil coming out of the clutch lifter, it has a ball bearing clutch lifter fitted and I'm pretty sure I fitted the correct seal.
Anyway I ordered a replacement seal from Japan and it's turned up today.
But it's engine out to replace the seal. I think I need to try and stay focused on my H2, if my parts ever turn up

I live on a council estate, the royal mail provided a picture of a door with a 25 above it except it's not ours, this door opens the opposite direction.
Chatting with Z Power and they're on Google maps looking at front doors, unfortunately 98 percent of the doors are the same.
I remember a few years ago a parcel coming to ours for 25 Sycamore Avenue, this is a few minutes from ours, so last night armed with a picture of the door we take a walk , as we approach the house, it's pretty obvious that the house is unoccupied.
However the corrosion on the number 25 looks pretty similar to the one in the picture.
Not that it matters, I text Phil from Z Power to let him know the situation, he says he'll resend the goods and try and claim it back from the Royal Mail.
So this is how things typically go for me.
Funny how it never gets me down though. I just loose a bit of enthusiasm.
I'm frustrated because I think I know were my parts are and have no way of checking and I've known Phil at Z power for longer than I care to remember, if it was a company I didn't know then I might not be so concerned, ho hum :?

So it's been a while, I was out with some friends on Saturday we hen my ring doorbell went off, being in a poor reception area I couldn't get the video feed to load, when I did it was Phil from Z power personally delivering my missing parts ;)
Now last night Woolfe came round, if you recall that my B Genny came loose and smashed up of the pick ups, I'd replaced the broken pick up and still not got a spark.
So we set about trying to find the issue.
After much scratching of heads and doing meter readings we started swapping parts over ( my B runs the same ignition as my E)
Eventually we found the issue...
Iron filings on the pick ups and took bigger air gap, who would have thought iron fillings would stop the bike sparking!!!
Anyhow my E now has fully working electrics, but as is always the case with me, I'm a choke plunger and spring missing, not sure why or where it's gone.
The Genny looks completely knackered but works perfectly Alan Moss look away now

IMG_20240814_204053_1.jpg

So my brake lines on my B are fouling the forklegs, Graham suggested I might be able to bend them to improve the clearance. I've emailed Hell but they've not got back to me, so today I'm off to work with the brake lines in a bag as I know there's a sturdy vice at work, I've got nothing to loose.
While I was down on the floor I thought I would check out what it actually was that my B had spewed onto the patio.
The front frame bracket below the engine has two stroke oil dripping from it and the back one has gearbox oil Aggghhhh.
More updates soon

Your image is definitely sideways, maybe your phone is automatically uprighting a sideways image. Too bloody clever by half..
Did you take the image with the phone upright?

IMG_20240814_204053_1.jpg

Can I suggest that you take an image twice?

Once with the phone held upright and once with it held horizontally, then upload both images and see what happens..

I have corrected it. The picture itself was sideways, so I downloaded it to my laptop, rotated it and re-uploaded it.

Sometimes it is an auto-rotate thing on phones and you have to make absolutely sure that you take it in the correct orientation.

Do you have one of those dodgy I-Phones? This is a longstanding common problem with I-Phones due to Apple doing their own thing for the orientation data. Google ios EXIF orientation problem

Glad it's slowly getting sorted! Although you've now found other issues.
My genny looks the same as yours except mine's not quite as clean, well, all I've done to it is WD40 and a small wire brush and that was over 10 years ago !!! Maybe I should have a look one day

Today on my lunch break I put my brake lines from my B into the vice and grabbed a pair of stilsons, I had nothing to loose they were useless to me as they were.
After a few minutes they had wielded and both had a much sharper angle.
So tonight I hooked everything up and the lines now clear the forklegs, result.
However I have not bled completely empty brake lines for a long time, I've just spent over an hour and have some resistance. But still plenty of air in the system, this is going to take a while.
What about my H2?
Well I might have a chance to make some progress on Saturday, saying that the football season has started, I should get some time in on the bike before our 12.30 kick off....

Re: My H2

Post by scouse »

Hi folks it's been a while
I'm now set on a Hawirch Ferry with a bike in the back od Ray Goddard's van...
Sadly not my H2
I spent Monday, Tuesday and most of Wednesday working on my H2, now if it was a standard bike, wheels etc would just slot straight in, however I have a pair of KH250 wheels with alloy rims on mine, this brings all sorts of connotations up, I've had special spacers made up to accommodate them.
One of the main issues was that I had the standard mudgaurd fitted, which with the 18" front wheel looks stupid.
Now I thought I'd found an 18" front mudguard that slotted straight in. However on fitting it I couldn't get the front wheel to line up.
After a lot of measuring and standing back, the front mounting bracket was slightly out of shape and too small for the fork gap.
So I thought I wonder if a KH has the same spacing for mounting the mudgaurd.
Into the garage out with my KH400 front wheel and yes the spacing was the same, off with the front mudguard and offer it up to my H2, it's far too narrow, I did think about fitting it with some washers, but it was a lot of faf so I put my 400 front end back together again ( before I loose some components) and switched back to my original H2 guard.
Everything just fell into place, it looks stupid but works perfectly.
My H2 is fitted with a set of KH500 forks, the hub for the KH Series is the same part number for the KH500.
When I worked in a bike breakers I was forever measuring stuff to see what would bolt on where, I discovered that GPZ900 calipers bolt straight onto KH500 forks also Z650 drilled and vented discs bolt straight onto a KH hub.
The only issue is the pads overlap slightly and don't use all of the disc, simple solution is to remove some of the pad material and vola a bolt on brake upgrade, I found 2 discs too much, so dropped down to one.
Onto the back end, now the issue I found with the back end was that the KH drum is cable operated and the H2 isn't, when marrying the two together the back brake was useless, with a bit of research I found that a Z400 shared the same size brake shoes and Hub as the KH, because it was a rod operated rear brake the drum had a drop down v to mount the brake stop rod (?) onto, I bit the bullet and bought a second hand brake plate and get my mate to machine up a spacer. Tuesday was the first time I mounted everything. It went together perfectly, at last I had a working rear brake.
Wednesday the bike is coming together really nicely, shiny bolts everywhere, I come to put the throttle cable on and notice that the oil line is slightly frayed, I pull 10 cables out of a tube that I keep in, all of which are 500s.. so I put it on anyway and the cam on the pulley doesn't return, I guess I need a new cable then, I'll soldier on anyway.
I have had a new Doremi wiring harness for around 15 years, so I fit this, and wire up the rest of the electrics for the engine, next I go to get the chain that I bought during lockdown., only to find that there's no split link.
I then turn my attention to the airbox and fitted a new foam filter, the dished top of the airbox is a bit crispy, so I use a washer to secure it, 2 turns with a screwdriver and a nice crack forms across the plate... Bummer, well that's that, I call it a day on the H2

For your front Mudguard Gaz, you spotted that my H2 has an S Series Mudguard mounted on the H2 Stay.. It fits very snug on my 19" wheel...

Anyhow, have a good weekend with the Eriks..

So my run of things not going right continues, got in touch with a company on eBay selling split links. Sent them a picture of my DID chain box.
Yes we can sort that for you, here's an eBay link to the correct item.
Purchased the link over a week ago, tracking number doesn't work and it just says delivery delayed.
They are a reputable company so I've emailed them to see what's happened.
Having a couple of people leave at work has made it quite hard work, so when I come home I have no desire to get in the Garage/Shed, I did spend some time today lacquering my tailpiece, it looked OK, but I guess it will look all orange pealy tomorrow.
Really could do with something going right on this just to give me a bit more enthusiasm for the build

Your not alone on deliveries, good company, used many times before with great results(Legend Motorcycles), ordered a tank strap for a GT125 well over a week ago well nearly two now and same results as you are experiencing, not sure if it's them or post office playing up. :(
