RH/Howden Insurance Customers Beware

I have been with RH Insurance now trading as Howden for quite a number of years, and have always been happy with them.
At renewal in January I was disappointed with the price but stuck with them because they do not charge admin fees to add or remove bikes mid term.
Yesterday I had to add a bike to my policy. After a bit of messing about they came back with a price of £17 + an admin charge of £36 After describing my disgust to the operator I managed to get the admin fee down to £20.
I will be looking elsewhere at renewal next year.

Carole Nash charge £40 for mid-term adjustments, so still better with Howdens.
Like every insurance company, you have to shop around and not auto-renew, you can then do a deal.

I`ve been continuously with them for a number of years now I think ! and have recently renewed but bike is not on a guaranteed value anymore for some reason and I can`t remember why its not now as it has been previously ? but there has been a recent time when I haven`t really cared about much.

I think classic bike values have dropped over the years so what would a decent guaranteed value of a reasonably good KH 250 be nowadays to put to Howdens ?

Ahh that much, I need to get it sorted then.

When a classic bike is insured on "market value" as opposed to "guaranteed value" how do they come up with a "market value" settlement figure if the worst happens ?

I think they must go online and look at current selling prices.
I had an agreed value with them but at the accident they re valued it at half as much again.

However, with the buy back price, I actually received close to the agreed value (and the bike).

I too have been with RH now Howdens for quite a while and always found them pretty good,I added 2 bikes and was asked for £16 + £36 administration charge which I politely moaned about to the assistant and she quickly caved in and reduced it to £20 which is a little more acceptable,

I renewed with Howdens and they said to me it would be reduced to £20 if you moaned about it.
I also asked about putting private regs on the bikes part way through a policy and they said there would be no additional charge for that .

Insurance is a little different with 'Classic' stuff but it's always worth looking around.

After seeing the Howden thread I started the quote, which then ends up in them phoning you, Howdens phoned me the following day, I was wondering why I hadnt heard from Bennetts as my insurance was due to expire the following day, I logged on to find had selected 'auto renew' Howdens came back with around £130 for my H2c with an agreed value and would want pictures/valuation etc,

I had just found my 'auto renew' quote at £75 from bennetts, I told him this and he said their 'admin' charge was £60 so couldnt get anywhere near the £75.

On one of my modern bikes:

2025 Aprilia Tuono 1100 Factory: renewel dropped through letter box at £430, I had done a few comparison sites and the best quote for the same cover was £280, I phoned them (it was Bennetts again) she went through my details and re quoted me £380 (nothing had changed) I repied you are still a lot more expensive than what I have been quoted (dont tell them how much obviously) she said there's one more thing I can try and came back at £320, I still went with my £280 'Compare the market quote'

The point I am making though is for that 15 minute phone call we went from £430--------£380-------£320, thats £110, much better in my back pocket than there's
