so -1 . Dave
.. then you'll have to go next year.

I thought that last years NW rally was excelent even thou the weather was crap, a good balance of DJ and band. we had all day to talk, the nite time is for
So why not keep it the same, unless it a question of money, in which case I'm easy, but then you all ways knew that
Try and be all thing to every one, if you fail at least you tried

even though i did not make it this year next i hope too :!: anyway back to the topic having played in rock bands for many years i know how hard it is for the bands to get work as you have a limited crowd to play to so i think we should all say yes :!: :!: :!: :!: before we are just left with chas and dave or the disco shite that we have to endure in many of the pubs
come on guys you aint that old yet give the bands a big
:smt023 and just ask them to turn it down a bit

I love live bands and rock music as much as the next middle aged biker, that is not the question .
as someone else pointed out ,we only meet up a few times a year and the social side is why i like the club. i can go watch a live band anytime.
Just my 2p
oops what that a nudge?

I didn't make last years NW because I was away, but anyway... This poll will yeild results from those who are on line, but the rest won't get a say.
In my view there are enough limitations to the entertainment that can be considered for a rally so why shorten the scope even more.
To suggest 'not' booking a band, then what is the alternative? If the point is being made that a band is too loud then the argument for a disco instead must also be out of the question. If background (supermarket music) is all that is required then we just need a radio with the saving surley reflected in the entry fee.
There are a few people who like to talk and natter, but as a band would only take a two hour slot on the Saturday, from 9pm to 11:30 (inc a half hour break) it leaves Friday 'late' afternoon and evening, most of Saturday (inc early evening) and Sunday morning to talk triples. Besides most of the talking is done outside (Band or no Band)
If the social time (awake time) at a rally is ~ 24 hours then the band would consume 8% of the this (leaving 92% for everything else).
Suggesting 'no' band is saying there is less on offer for entertainment. A disco would make little sense as an alternative if the argument is more for peace and quiet. Besides, a disco is noisier and can go on for longer without a break...!
So, I say +1. And I will try to make it in 2010.
PS
When starting this string there is an entry for a voting poll at the bottom of the page. You just need to enter the details there to put it to the vote (but to do this you will have to start the poll again).

My concern is that we book a good band (and they were very good last time) and if the weather is decent, 90% of people will be stood outside chatting and smoking.
This year most people were inside due to the rain and there was a great atmosphere. Even the ones that don't like loud music (you know who you are!) had to concede that they enjoyed it.
It would be embarrassing to have a decent band playing to 10 or 20 people.
